2024 Paves Way for New Development, Housing

The Mahoning County Land Bank continues to play a key role in revitalization efforts, creating new opportunities for development and community investment.

A major milestone was the cleanup of the former Royal China factory in Sebring, a two-year project made possible by a $1.5 million state grant. The Land Bank also secured nearly $3.5 million to remediate three brownfield sites in Youngstown, removing environmental barriers to future redevelopment.

In Youngstown’s Idora neighborhood, six new homes are under construction on Land Bank-acquired lots, with several set to hit the market this spring for about $180,000. Beautification efforts are also expanding with the help of a $10,000 grant supporting native plant cultivation.

“These projects are making a difference,” says Debora Flora, the Land Bank’s executive director. “With much of the cleanup behind us, we’re now focused on rebuilding and creating stronger, more vibrant neighborhoods.”
