Work Progresses on New Idora District Homes
The Mahoning County Land Bank is helping bring new investment to Youngstown’s Idora neighborhood by partnering on a six-home construction project along Mineral Springs Avenue.
The Land Bank played a key role in assembling the lots for this effort, working with YNDC to clear blighted properties and prepare the land for redevelopment. “This project is the next step in transforming the neighborhood,” says Deb Flora, the Land Bank’s executive director.
A state grant through Ohio’s Welcome Home program is helping fund the $1.8 million project, which will add six energy-efficient homes to Mineral Springs Avenue. Each three-bedroom home will have 2.5 bathrooms, a full basement and a two-car garage. YNDC, which owns the lots and is overseeing construction, expects to list the homes for about $180,000 in May. Families earning up to 80% of Mahoning County’s median income will be eligible to buy.
