Mahoning County Land Bank Releases 10-Year Impact Report, Celebrates Milestone Anniversary

The Mahoning County Land Bank today released an impact report that outlines the results of demolition and repurposing efforts across Mahoning County over the course of the past decade.

The 16-page report highlights the results of the Land Bank’s efforts to leverage funding and community partnerships to restore vacant, blighted and tax-delinquent properties through acquisitions, demolitions, greening and landscaping practices.

Since its inception in 2011, the Land Bank has completed nearly 1,500 demolitions, performed countless greening projects and contributed to the restoration of nearly 100 tax-delinquent homes that went back on the market.

The report includes project highlights, partner spotlights and community impact statistics and stories.

“Forming a land bank made Mahoning County eligible for more than $18 million to clear away empty, badly damaged houses in 16 communities,” shares Land Bank Executive Director Debora Flora in the report. “It streamlined and amplified a system by which abandoned, tax-delinquent properties could become productive again. Neighborhood stability has increased in many places, thanks to the outstanding work of the Land Bank’s numerous partners.

“Residents of Mahoning County sparked the momentum to establish the Land Bank a decade ago. In return, the Land Bank remains committed to improving residents’ lives through vacant property revitalization. In this effort, we are one.”
